Reviewed by Kathy Muntz(2011-09-06) iMac Review: 27-inch, quad-core i5, 4GB RAM The iMac is the best computer I have ever used. The display is very capable to handle HD videos and of course photo editing and anything you'd find on the Web using a browser. Never tested it on games, though. But I'm sure you'll find how the iMac handles graphics-intensive games on other reviews here in MacMall as well as in other websites. The display on the 27-incher is also nice on the eye. It has a 2560 x 1440 resolution that makes icons, text, and images appear easily perceptible. The result is a big screen that can accommodate a lot of opened windows and browsers and programs simultaneously.
The computer is also fast as I expected. The quad-core i5 of the iMac handles multiple programs easily, and it goes well even with memory-hogging programs and even if you're using Parallels. I tested it with Final Cut, Photoshop and Dreamweaver, and a couple of spreadsheets and it looks okay. There is no unusual lags or any case of the unit getting hot and noisy.
As for the design, it is Apple. What can you expect. It is a thing of beauty. My only problem is the bundled magic mouse and keyboards. They should have included the trackpad instead and let go of the mouse. All in all, thoug, I'm satisfied with this computer. |

Reviewed by Dara Hamilton (2011-08-31) 27" iMac Quad-Core Intel Core i5 2.7GHz Great computer all around. But first, here's my biggest hindrance getting an iMac, or an Apple computer for that matter, sooner: software. I'm talking about programs and apps, not OS. Lion, the one I'm using now, looks good and is everything I want in an operating system.
The Lion OS is simple to use, pleasing on the eye, and very intuitive. My software problem covers word processor, text editor, photo editor. Of course, there is a whole suite of productivity apps for Mac. Thing is, they're expensive and unlike those that come bundled with Windows computers. But I guess it's true that good things don't come cheap.
As I said, the iMac is a great computer all around. It has very small footprint, which makes it ideal if you live in a cramped condo like I do. Also, the screen is really nice. It has a very wide screen that can accommodate 3 or 4 programs you're working on at the same time. It's also great for 1080p movies.
As for performance, it's fast for what I do with it: Word, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, FileZilla, FireFox. |

Reviewed by Ralph Anderson(2011-08-20) 21.5" iMac Intel Core i3 3.2GHz I have been using an Apple IMac/333/32/6G purchased in 1999 and upgraded as much as the platform would allow. My new IMac is so fast, the screen is beautiful, and I love the wireless keyboard and mouse!
I delayed a new purchase this long because my old Mac was still performing well and I was able to run all my necessary programs adequately. The expense was also a big consideration, but after much "badgering" from my family, I took the plunge. I am sooooo glad that I did! I am looking forward to being able to "burn" both DVD's and CD's, and serf the internet without being constantly reminded that I need to update my browser!
Thank you Apple for making such a wonderful product. |
